The Brief

Cyber Attacks on the Rise this Holiday Season

Written by Atria IT Team | Dec 22, 2023 3:53:39 PM

There has been a significant uptick in credential harvesting attacks throughout the industry. These attacks have been primarily perpetrated through phishing emails in which the recipient clicks on a link in the email and then is prompted to enter their credentials. These attacks are designed well and appear legitimate. The best thing to do is verify before clicking or opening any links or attachments.

'Tis the Season for Cyber Attacks

Threat actors love this time of year because it becomes easier to trick people into clicking a link or opening an attachment. People are buying items online, finishing up year-end deadlines and sending holiday wishes via email. This heightened online activity is the perfect environment for cyber events to occur.

Please remember to be extra diligent with email and online interactions:

  • Review every email and verify before opening attachments or clicking links.
  • Review the From and To fields to identify who and where the email is coming from.
  • Look for misspellings or extra letters or numbers.
  • Be extremely cautious when entering your credentials and make sure you have verified the system that is asking for them.

When in Doubt, Verify!

It takes far less time to call someone to verify an email than the time it takes to clean up a cyber event. Remember, these events cause reputational and financial damage to all involved.
